A prism reflects sunlight and sends it shooting off in every direction. It channels the beauty and brilliance of the sun and then redistributes it.

A clear, easy lesson for us...

We should be like prisms of God’s love- Receiving it and sending it out in as many directions as possible to create a glorious display for the world to experience.

Do you deserve to rest?

Do you find yourself working hard so that you can deserve some time to rest? That sounds very normal, but its actually a trick question. You should never be working hard so that you earn rest.

Rest is not a reward. Rest is a need!

You wouldn’t deprive yourself of food or sleep because you haven’t earned it. (Okay, well you might, but you can realistically look at that and say you can’t keep that up for long!)

Same with resting. You need nourishment, inspiration, enjoyment, rest, relaxation, and breaks. If you don’t take time to rest you can’t be productive when you're supposed to be, and you can’t put your heart and mind into your work because you just don’t have it in you. You are exhausted and depleted.

Sure, you can push yourself for a while, but eventually you will break down. Just like your body stops running without food, your inspiration and creativity will crash and die without proper nourishment.

So if you think you don’t deserve to rest. You are sadly mistaken and doing yourself a disservice. When you give yourself permission to rest, then you will have what you need in order to move your goals forward.

Serena Williams and the Olympics

I was watching Serena Williams play her final round of tennis as she was fighting for the gold medal. It was inspiring to watch the determination, and focus during the match. You could see on her face the energy and passion that it took to get her to that moment. We can only imagine what she has sacrificed, struggled and done to be on that court in those final moments of the match. We see the exciting part. The acclaim and honor showered on her. We see everything she gained from getting there, but i wonder what she lost. How many fun times, relationships, activities, family time, how many of those things did she choose to give up for her dream? She had just as many hours in a day as we do. She had the same pressures of family, finance, education, friends, entertainment. She just chose to allocate her time to something that was important to her. Was it worth it? Did she win or lose by getting to this place? We will never know. But we do know, that her dream was realized, and for the effort and sacrifice she put into it, she deserves to be recognized. We must applaud the complete devotion and commitment that she chose to give. She was focused, disciplined, tenacious, passionate, and diligent. That’s what turned a tennis match into a lesson for us about character qualities, and the cost of cultivating them.
